Build and materials
Light, hollow-feeling and clearly built to a price. The button has a lot of travel and not much feedback, so I sometimes could not tell whether I had fired it. The LED is brighter than I expected.
First impressions
Worked on day one at close range. By day four Roscoe was already discounting it at anything beyond a few metres, which is the classic pattern for a single-frequency emitter with modest output.
Real-world scenarios
Reasonable for fence-line barking where the dog is close and predictable. Weak on walks, where distance and background noise both work against it.
Does the science back it up?
Habituation is the known failure mode of ultrasonic deterrents: a dog that hears the same tone with no consequence learns to ignore it. Devices with multiple frequency modes are easier to keep novel, which is precisely what this one lacks.
Durability over time
No mechanical complaints, but the charging port cover is flimsy and I would not take it out in rain.
